In March, 2000, the Church Board voted to adopt Braden and Johanna Pewitt as missionaries to Cambodia. What does that mean? The Pewitts have been accepted by Adventist Frontier Missions to go into one of the Khmer hill tribes that hasn’t had any Christian contact and influence. They had the responsibility of raising their own expenses to get them there and to support themselves financially while they do this pioneering mission work. Braden and Johanna have made a seven to ten year commitment to the unentered hill tribes of Cambodia.
As part of the Collegedale Church’s mission emphasis and relationship with Cambodia, we agreed to support them financially and with our prayers, letters and care packages while in the mission field. The Church Board expressed a strong desire that this not be a budgeted financial commitment, rather that it develop from members who will see this as a project they can support with their donations. In addition, it will connect them in a tangible way to the mission field and to the Pewitts directly.
During the Adventist Frontier Mission Rally, July 28-29, 2000 we were able to give Braden and Johanna Pewitt the check to cover their launching fees.
Does this mean we're done with this project?
The Collegedale Church family has also made a long-term commitment to support them in this effort. It will take $2,807 each month to support them in this ministry. Many of our members have already pledged towards this goal.
Beyond the financial pledge, however, we need a commitment to support them with our letters, encouragement and, most of all, our prayers. Our prayers are important. The support of this family of friends and church members will be so very important to Braden and Johanna.
If you haven’t yet made a monthly commitment to the Pewitt Cambodia fund please prayerfully consider this with your family. Help make Braden and Johanna a part of yours and the Collegedale Church Family. If you need more information, contact Wolf Jedamski at the Church office (423-396-2134).
