Counselors
Dúane M. Schoonard, MA
Dúane Schoonard is the Pastoral Director of Spiritual Maturity with a specialty in counseling. She has a degree in theology from Atlantic Union College and a Masters in Counseling from Rollins College. Nationally Certified and Licensed by the State of Tennessee, she provides 10-15 hours of counseling per week as part of her pastoral duties.
Dúane has 15 years experience in counseling and particularly enjoys working with women and college age students. She does pre-marital and marital counseling, specializing in grief, divorce, spiritual and life development issues.
While ministry is her passion, she enjoys many creative activities, including gardening, crafts, decorating and woodworking.
Evie Nogales Baker, CMSW
Evie Nogales Baker, CMSW is an Assistant Professor for the Social Work and Family Studies Department for Southern Adventist University. Mrs. Baker also contracts with the Counseling Center, Partnership for families, children and adults serving the Hispanic population with crisis issues.
Mrs. Baker is a graduate from Southern Adventist University (2000) where she graduated with a double major in Social Work and Psychology and obtained her MSSW from the University of Tennessee of Knoxville. Her specialties include Anger Management, Behavioral problems, Child Abuse and Neglect, Depression, Anxiety, Couple and Marital Issues, Family Dysfunction, and Parenting Issues. Mrs. Baker has nine years of experience working with children, adolescents and adults.
Married in 2001 to Nathan Baker, they are currently enjoying the adventures from their first child, born in 2006.
Ardelle Bland
Ardelle graduated from Southern Adventist University from the Masters in Counseling Program in December 2007 after completing her internship at the Collegedale Church. She has a Masters in Marriage and Family Therapy and particularly enjoys premarital counseling. Ardelle comes to us from Redlands, California and has chosen to make her new home in the Chattanooga Area while completing her doctoral degree in Counselor Education. Her hobbies include exercising and reading.
Marcel Schwantes
Marcel is a professional certified life coach with over fifteen years of experience in the areas of personal development, relationships, leadership and organizational coaching and training. Marcel has a full-time practice and works with clients across the country by phone or internet who want to gain new awareness, define their strengths, overcome obstacles, get organized and live authentically, balanced and whole. Marcel is also a Peoplemap™ Trainer, Keynote Speaker and Writer, publishing his first book due out in the Fall of 2010. He is happily married and very active in church life and ministry at "CONNECT" worship service.
